The sales of electric vehicles continue to climb with the Chevrolet "Volt", Mitsubishi "MiEV", Nissan "Leaf" and Tesla "Roadster" now available. With EV purchase incentives from the Government of Ontario in the region of $8,000 and most auto manufacturers scheduled to release their own versions of electric vehicle (EV) over the next year or two, sales will definitely continue to climb. In fact, by 2020 it is estimated that there will be approximately 3.5 million electric vehicles on the road. What Type Of Charger Do You Need For Your EV?
There are currently three levels of EV chargers available. Aztec offers Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 EV charging solutions for residential and business installations. The level of charger you choose will depend on your charge time requirements and the electrical infrastructure of your home or business. The table below, explains the three levels of EV chargers we offer.

| Description |
Level 1 EV chargers use a standard 120V outlet and are designed to be simple to install with no modifications required to your existing electrical circuits. They are good for infrequent drivers with long periods between trips. Level 1 EV chargers typically take 12 to 18 hours to charge a depleted EV battery. |
Level 2 EV chargers require a 240V connection similar to a dryer outlet. They offer faster charging times over Level 1 chargers, but do require proper installation by a qualified electrician. They are better suited for drivers who make frequent trips with shorter periods in between. Level 2 EV chargers will typically charge your depleted EV battery in 4-8 hours. |
Level 3 EV chargers use large amounts of direct current to bypass the vehicle’s on-board charger with a fast and reliable DC charge that takes minutes instead of hours to charge your EV. Level 3 EV chargers are ideal for commercial installations including public charging stations and fleet operators. A Level 3 EV charger will typically recharge your EV battery in 20 -30 minutes. |
